THIS WEEK'S HIP HOP BOPS

Y4WW4Y – No Games

Y4WW4Y's 'No Games' is a compelling soulful rap testimony from Glasgow, sharp wordplay meets lofi production, and it's a genuine banger

Y4WW4Y

Y4WW4Y lays it all out on 'No Games'. This is testimony rap at its most direct: a chronicle of rebellion, regret, and the turn back toward faith, delivered with real conviction. The beat is wonderfully lo-fi and unhurried, giving acres of space for the bars room to land. The wordplay is tight, the delivery confident, and there's a warmth in the mix that keeps things from ever feeling preachy. When the hook comes around, it earns its place. Striking soulful rap, authentic and fully realised.

Y4WW4Y is a Glasgow-based rapper carving out a distinct Scottish corner of the gospel rap world. Working from a home studio, he handles production and mixing himself, drawing on influences like Lecrae, DC3, KONOLA and Y Shadey. 'No Games' dropped on 4th September as an original single, and it's a clear statement of purpose: music as ministry, delivered with craft. We're glad to have him on the blog, cos this one hits hard.

Elias Dream – Serra

Elias Dream's 'Serra' is dark, cinematic emo rap that unfolds like a thriller, all menace and Hammond warmth, and it's a proper highlight this month

Elias Dream

Elias Dream builds dread the way a director does. 'Serra' opens conversational, almost casual, then the story tilts: attention becomes obsession, obsession becomes threat, and the whole thing spirals toward something unsettling. The rap is direct and narrative-driven, pushing the plot forward while guitars and that signature Hammond B3 swell underneath, adding warmth where the subject matter offers none. It's a study in contrast. Its all cinematic, with the tension earned bar by bar. And the payoff? It lands. Gripping emo rap, dark as anything and fully realised.

Elias Dream is a storytelling project built around songs that play like short films: love, loss, fear, hope, the turning points that change everything. Only a few days after 'Goodbye, My Love', they're back with something darker. That Hammond B3 with Leslie is becoming a signature, warm and organic against modern production. 'Serra' is out now. This one's a real October highlight, and we're watching closely.

K. J. Leone – Golden Age

K. J. Leone's 'Golden Age' is a beautifully textured slice of boom bap from Essex, dusty samples meet swung drums and jazz-inflected warmth, and it's an underground gem

K. J. Leone

K. J. Leone opens 'Golden Age' with a sample that breathes. There's dust on these drums, a swing that feels like a real vibe rather than programmed, and the whole track carries that jazz-rap warmth where every element knows when to step back. Leone's flow sits easy over the beat, conversational one bar and sharper the next, working through ideas about taking what the 90s did right and making it say something now. The production has enough polish, but mainly aims for character. Superb boom bap, warm and fully realised.

Leone is an independent hip-hop artist and producer out of Braintree, Essex, right on the edge of London but not quite part of it. His sound draws on A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul and J Dilla, but the music looks at the present through that lens rather than cosplaying the past. 'Golden Age' is taken from his new project Ethereal Rhymes in Material Times, six tracks moving between soulful atmosphere and rawer underground production. One to watch this autumn.

FatCat – New One

FatCat's 'New One' is a relentless Miami trap banger with a hook that sticks, all confidence and replay value

FatCat

FatCat comes out swinging on 'New One'. The beat hits immediately, all rattling hi-hats and bass that sits right in your chest. And he rides it with a confidence you can't fake. The hook is a real 'lodged in your head' kinda vibe. There's a sharpness to his delivery here, a hunger that cuts through the production without ever fighting it. The production has some great flourishes, and never feels rushed, every bar landing where it should, every ad-lib placed for maximum impact. Excellent Miami trap, immediate and built for repeat plays.

FatCat reps Miami and he's already racked up serious numbers: 'Options', 'Way Up' and 'I Got Money' have each crossed a million Spotify streams, and his 'Hope' video has pulled in over 9.5 million YouTube views. He's had coverage from BET, MTV, Deco Drive, Channel 10 News and The Source, and he's done film work alongside the music. A proper banger this one, more please.
